Summertime Fun

"Prairie Storm at Sunset" by Marla Smith, available at the American Plains Show in Las Cruces, NM, Sep 9 - Oct 30, 2011.
I know a lot of Arizona Plein Air Painters members have run off to cooler climes to paint, but a few of us are still here toughing it out (and dreading the 117-degree heat forecast for this coming Saturday).  Despite the minor amount of whining we do, most of us still find ways to enjoy painting in Arizona year-'round.  Here's a perfect example:

Dawn Sutherland invited members to join her in Flagstaff at the end of June for a lovely paint-out opportunity at the Flagstaff Arboretum.  Also painting at this free-to-enter event were Jane Newman, Christine Debrosky, Roger Krouse, Susan Kliewer, and Jeff Dolan.  You can see a slideshow of photos from this paint-out on the APAP website's Shows, Paint-outs & Events page at http://www.arizonapleinairpainters.com/.

If you are planning an event for APAP members, or would like to share a success or show announcement about your work, please send complete info and photos to Sandy Farley, farleystudios@cox.net.

Susan Kliewer captures a moment at the Flagstaff Arboretum Paint-Out.

Here's wishing you and yours a lovely July 4th Holiday!
It's great to have the freedom to enjoy painting in America!!

Last Chance to Sign Up For Flagstaff Arboretum Event!

"Wanderlust" by Sandy Farley (private collection)

Last chance to dance, ladies & gents!
The Third Annual Flagstaff Arboretum Paint Out is next weekend, June 26th from 9-5 and 27th from 9-noon.  Those who wish to paint should contact Dawn Sutherland ASAP at artbydawn@mac.com!  Attendance is limited to 20 painters from APAP, so make sure you don't miss this opportunity.

See what you missed if you didn't go rafting & painting with Cody DeLong recently: http://www.outdoorpainter.com/editorial/painting-in-and-above-the-grand-canyon.html .  PleinAir Magazine's editor Stephen Doherty did a really wonderful spotlight on Cody and the Grand Canyon Association in the June 10th issue of its PleinAir Today e-bulletin.

Please send news about your latest show, event, paint-out opportunity or workshop to me so I can include in our next blog entry.  Also, don't forget your entry for Member of the Month.  Each month we're spotlighting an APAP member on our website, and you could be next.  All we need is your bio, and photos of you and your work.  Send all submissions to Sandy Farley, webmaster at:  farleystudios@cox.net.

On Fire!

Thankfully, not all of Arizona is on fire, but our prayers and hopes are with the many who are currently affected by the loss of forestland, open spaces, and personal property.
One GOOD fire is the show at the Sedona Arts Center featuring our own Dawn Sutherland, a founding member of Arizona Plein Air Painters and APAP Member of the Month.

Until next week, stay cool & safe and Paint Happy!
