Art Season Heating Up as Weather Cools

Picketpost Mountain - photo courtesy of Lil Leclerc

Casual Paint-out for APAP, but all are invited!

Sat. Nov. 5th, 2011 -- morning to early afternoon
Hwy 60 East -- Superior, Arizona
Painting old town Superior, Apache Leap, Picket Post Mountain and surrounding areas.
Meeting for late lunch at Porters Cafe in downtown Superior
Hostess is Linda Davison Mathues – call for more info (516) 503-0454.

The town is nestled under Apache Leap, in the Tonto National Forest, 60 miles east of Mesa Arizona. From Tempe, it is about a 50 minute trip east on Hwy. 60. So much to paint: old adobes, old tin roofs, striking mountains and lush desert washes. The town is 3 miles east of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. There are wonderful mountain & street views with adobe brick buildings, good early morning light on Picketpost Mountain, and really dramatic afternoon light on Apache Leap.

Members Head North!

The Grand Canyon Celebration of the Art, which runs from Sept. 10 through November 27, 2011, features the plein air talents of several Arizona Plein Air Painters, including President David Haskell, Vice President Cody DeLong, and members Gregory Hull, Raleigh Kinney, Robert Dalegowski, and Michael Chesley Johnson.  The weather is finally beginning to cool, and what better reason do you need to take a road trip than a fantastic event like this?
"Thirty artists arrive and begin painting on Saturday, Sept 10, finishing up with a Quick Draw Event & Auction and Buyers' Preview and Awards Reception on Friday, Sept 16," says Michael Chesley Johnson.  "See and purchase the artwork on display through Nov 27.  Proceeds go towards our goal of creating a permanent art venue on the South Rim."
